Issue :

Was able to login to all FTP accounts using the root password earlier but now it doesn’t seem to work. Where to check that?

Fix :

Go to WHM >> Main >> Service Configuration >> FTP Server Configuration.
At the bottom of the page, you’ll find an option as ‘Allow Logins with Root Password’
Make sure that it is set to ‘Yes’ and save the settings.

This should resolve the issue.

Issue :

How to restrict cPanel account users from resetting their account passwords?

Solution :

1. Create a new feature list via WHM >> Packages >> “Feature Manager”
2. Keep the ‘Change Password’ option unchecked.
3. Edit the concerned packages and assign the new feature list to them.

Now the users would not be able to reset the password via cPanel.

However, if you want to disable the password reset option which appears after an incorrect cPanel login attempt then :

1. Go to WHM >> Tweak settings.
2. Uncheck the option ‘Allow cPanel users to reset their password via email’ and save the settings.

This will not let the users reset their passwords via the ‘you can reset your password by entering your username’ link.

Issue :

How to reset MySQL ‘root’ password ?

Solution :

-> Stop the mysql daemon.

/etc/init.d/mysqld stop

-> Run the following commands :

mysqld_safe –skip-grant-tables &
mysql -u root
mysql> use mysql;
mysql> update user set password=PASSWORD(“newrootpassword”) where User=’root’;
mysql> flush privileges;
mysql> quit

-> Restart the service.

/etc/init.d/mysqld stop
/etc/init.d/mysqld start

Issue :

File Manager failed to open in Win 6 .

Solution :

This issue is usually resolved by the following steps:

Right click My computer >> manage >> user and groups
Open the specific user >> properties >> uncheck ‘the account is disable’
Reset the user password (It will change the particular domain’s ftp password as well).

Now you should be able to get into the File Manager.

However, the above steps will cause a change in password. If it is required that the password should NOT be changed then the following steps will help you get around that:

You will have to check the password in the plesk database and replicate the same in the back-end.

In this case, plesk saved the details in the following way:

The database name : psa.mdb
The table name : Hosting
Column : Ftp_user , Ftp_pwd

1.Check the ftp user for that domain through the web hosting settings in plesk.
2.Search the user in the Psa.mdb > Hosting table > Ftp_user and find the corresponding password for that user .
3.Update the same password via back- end i.e Right click the ‘My computer’ >> Manage >> User and groups >> Open the specific user >> Properties >> Reset password

Note :

Before changing any entries in the DB, you should take a backup .
Before editing the entries in the DB, check and confirm twice.

Issue :

When a new account is created via WHM, it sends a confirmation email but the password remains hidden!

Fix :

In order to get around this, do the following :

- Go to WHM >> Tweak Settings
- Enable the option : “Send passwords in plaintext over email when creating a new acccount. Enabling this option is a security risk.”

Issue :

Webmail for an email account stopped working after the password was changed. It said ‘password updated successfully’ but when trying to login again via webmail, following error occurred :
invalid username or password
Mail quota and disk space usage for the email account is fine.

Fix :

Try running the cPanel script — /scripts/fixpop
If that does not fix the issue then try recreating the email account itself.
