Issue :

Following error occurs when trying to add a domain to a cPanel account :
Please transfer the domain to this server’s nameservers or have your admin add one of its nameservers ips to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

Solution :

To get around this, add the remote name server IP to the file ‘/etc/ips.remotedns’ via WHM >> Main >> IP Functions >> Configure Remote Service IPs >> Remote DNS IPs

The system will allow users to create parked/addon domains if the nameserver IP is listed in this file.

Issue :

An erstwhile regular account was migrated to be a parked domain on another account.
How can the email messages be restored to the parked domain?
P.S. Backup of the original account is available.

Solution :

Following assumptions have been made in this case :
Parked domain : abc.com
New account : xyz.com ( Username=xyz)

1. Re-create all the email accounts after parking the domain abc.com on xyz.com.
2. There would be a folder named ‘abc.com’ under the new account at the following path :

/home/xyz/mail/

Replace that folder with the corresponding folder available in the original backup.

Issue :

Several add-on,parked,sub-domains under a domain exist on the server but they are not listed in cPanel. Changing themes did not resolve the issue either.

Fix :

This can be fixed by deleting the .cpanel directory for the user. Once that is done, re-login to cPanel and you should be able to view everything.
If this does not resolve the issue then force update cPanel by running the following :

/scripts/upcp –force

Note: You need ‘root’ access to the server to run the above script.

Issue :

How to point a parked domain to a sub-directory of the main domain without any change in the URL ?

Fix :

This is like making the parked domain function like an add-on domain.
Assuming that the parked domain name is abc.com and the corresponding folder under the main domain is ‘abc’ .This can be achieved by putting the following in the .htaccess file for the main domain :

RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} abc.com
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !abc/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ abc/$1 [L]

Users should not be able to add a particular domain ( say domain.com ) as an add-on domain or a parked domain.

Fix :

This can be easily accomplished on a cPanel server by the following steps :

1. Add the domain ( domain.com ) to the file /usr/local/cpanel/etc/commondomains
2. Then, ensure that the following Tweak Setting (WHM -> Server Configuration -> Tweak Settings) is enabled:
Prevent users from parking/adding on common internet domains. (i.e. hotmail.com, aol.com)
