Issue :

Following error occurs when trying to add a domain to a cPanel account :
Please transfer the domain to this server’s nameservers or have your admin add one of its nameservers ips to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

Solution :

To get around this, add the remote name server IP to the file ‘/etc/ips.remotedns’ via WHM >> Main >> IP Functions >> Configure Remote Service IPs >> Remote DNS IPs

The system will allow users to create parked/addon domains if the nameserver IP is listed in this file.

The following steps are required to add custom NS entries in Plesk.

1. Register the child name servers with your registrar and point them to the specific IP address.

ns1.domainname —-> server shared ip
ns2.domainname—-> server shared ip

2. Unfortunately, plesk has a limitation in managing the client’s private name servers. So, after registering your private name servers with the registrar, follow these steps :

By default, plesk will create DNS entries for a domain with the server’s default name servers. So, you will have to edit the DNS settings of the main domain as well as the domains registered with your new private name servers to eliminate the default name server configuration from its DNS zone and add the new custom one.

1. Log in to the client control panel.
2. Click on the domain name in the domain list to correct the DNS settings with the newly registered one.
3. Click on “DNS Settings” icon.
4. Select the check box besides the lines,
NS ns1-win.default.com
NS ns2-win.default.com
5. Click to remove and click “OK” to confirm.
6. Now, select “Add Record”.
7. Select “NS” from the first drop down.
8. Paste (your custom name server name) in the third column leaving the second text field as such.
9. Click “OK”
10. Repeat the same procedure to add ns2.domainname.

Error :

Missing nameservers reported by parent FAIL: The following nameservers are listed at your nameservers as nameservers for your domain, but are not listed at the parent nameservers. You need to make sure that these nameservers are working.If they are not working ok, you may have problems!

Solution :

This usually occurs when there is a mismatch between the name servers that you’ve assigned at the registrar end and the ones in your DNS zone file. Also, check the IPs and correct any mismatches. That should fix the issue.

Issue :
Can ‘named’ be removed/disabled on the main server if dedicated DNS servers are being used?

Solution :

As long as the server is not part of a DNS cluster, ‘named’ can be disabled on it.
Also, remove/uncheck it from Service Manager/chkservd to avoid notifications about it being down/offline.

If the server is part of a DNS cluster then in WHM, just go to the Service Configuration section and click on “Nameserver Selection.” Change this setting to “Disabled” then click “Save” at the bottom of the page.

Recently , we came across several queries regarding custom name server setup. Please follow the following procedure for configuring custom name servers. Let us know if you still face any issues.

Note: This is applicable for cPanel servers only.

1. Login to WHM as root

2. Select “Basic cPanel/WHM Setup ” from the left menu.

3. Type: ns1.mynameserver.com in the Primary Nameserver field.

4. Type: ns2.mynameserver.com in the Secondary Nameserver field.

5. Click Assign IP Address and provide the details.

6. Then Add an A Entry for this nameserver.

Note : If this does not work then do the following via console.
—————
# vi /etc/nameserverips
Add entries as follows
33.44.66.77=ns1.mynameserver.com
33.44.66.78 =ns2.mynameserver.com
—————

7. Select Nameserver IPs from the left menu in WHM.
